A 22-year-old man was taken by MediFlight air ambulance early Sunday morning with multiple injuries after he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his vehicle on I-44 in Grady County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said. The vehicle rolled once and stopped on the road, blocking both lanes, causing a second a collision when a pickup crashed into it as it was traveling west on the interstate around 4:40 a.m. on September 24.

Christopher A. Pugh II, who was admitted to an Oklahoma City hospital, was driving on I-44 south of Chickasha when he fell asleep and his 2016 Nissan Maxima left the road, according to the trooper's collision report.

Pugh's vehicle traveled about 420 feet before striking an embankment and rolling once, landing back on the road blocking both the westbound lanes of I-44, the report shows.

A second collision occurred a short time later when a 2015 Nissan Titan, driven by 20-year-old Martin Amerson of Chickasha, struck the Maxima then struck a concrete barrier, the report states.

The pickup traveled 215 feet and stopped on the shoulder.

Pugh was in fair condition Sunday morning. Pugh's passenger, Jordan Moorer, 23, of Ft. Sill, was not injured.

Amerson was not injured, but his passenger, 20-year-old Keri Cutler of Chickasha, was taken to a Comanche County hospital for monitoring due to an unrelated medical issue, according to the trooper's report.

The report also shows that Pugh was the only person not wearing a seatbelt.
