Police say the person who was shot in the parking lot of the Lynn Lane and Albany Walmart is in critical condition, and investigators are still trying to sort out what happened.
Broken Arrow police shut down a portion of the Walmart parking lot off of Lynn Lane after a man was shot in the back getting out of a white truck.
A suspect is in custody Wednesday evening, police said. That person's identity was not released.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to police.
"As a precaution, the Walmart was evacuated,” said officer James Koch. “Officers went in, searched the Walmart and didn't find anyone inside.
Garrett Estes shops at the Walmart every day and says he showed up shortly after the shooting happened.
"The school’s right there. I live right there. It's literally right here in my backyard. It sucks,” he said. “He could have killed a kid or an innocent bystander or anybody.”
Police also took a white car into evidence but didn't say how it is connected.
People who live in the area say the whole thing is shocking and they fear crime like this could be ramping up in the quiet community.
"It's senseless violence, I don't understand why,” said Estes. “There's no point, I mean, why do need to hurt anybody?”
Police located a small white Ford Sport Trac Truck with black wheels, a lift kit and Texas tags, that was being driven by the suspect.
