Some people in Broken Arrow are getting a better understanding of what police officers go through each day.
The Broken Arrow Police Department's citizen's police academy started today.
Folks have the chance to get hands-on training from officers and learn about about everything from basic criminal investigation to use of force.
Officers say they hope the classes will dispel some misconceptions about how police departments operate.
"They get to meet officers, they learn their first names, learn about their families. It also lets us know our community too, seeing some of the concerns they may have," said Officer Lisa Ford.
The classes run 11 weeks and are offered twice a year.
