Tulsa Police say they will be cracking down on drivers who speed through school zones. The school zone speed enforcement campaign will take place in south and west Tulsa during September.

Riverside Division Traffic Unit officers will randomly monitor active school zones south of East 11th Street and west of Sheridan Road, a news release states. Active school zones means when the lights are flashing.

School is back in session leading to many more pedestrians in the areas of local schools, the release notes. Drivers are asked to:

  • Remain alert
  • Put down their cell phones or other electronic devices
  • Heed warning signs

"It is the goal of the Traffic Unit to increase the safety of school children going to and from their schools and to prevent collisions occurring in school zones, especially those involving vehicles and pedestrians," TPD said.
