Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology got a big boost to its ability to teach students heading into aviation careers.

Tuesday, Southwest Airlines donated a turbine engine from a 737 to use as a teaching tool.

Spartan says donations like this help students better prepare for the real deal.

"We don't come across these engines everyday. After a while, these engines can only be assembled and disassembled so many times. When we get donations like this from Southwest, it goes a long ways towards helping students on real world applications," said Lamar Haynes, Spartan College North Campus President.

The engine will be housed at the North campus at Tulsa International Airport.
