A handful of Muskogee businesses are filling trailers and trucks full of water and other relief items to take to people along the Gulf Coast.

A quick post to social media for donations is all it took. And the community has been responding big time, dropping off water and other nonperishable items to help our neighbors to the south.

Each case of water, small or large, that's donated has an important destination: Texas Gulf Coast.

The people there inundated with flood water, debris and damage after Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey wreaked havoc.

Everyday supplies get lower and questions on how they'll move forward gets harder to answer.

At least to a degree, the American way is the answer.

And people around the country and Oklahoma are stepping up to help their fellow Americans.

"To me, it's amazing that people go out of their way to help others out,” said Jeremy Bush of PC Landing.

Sunday the PC Landing's owner posted a plea on social media. In it, he asked the community and business owners to donate water, cleaning supplies and other nonperishable items.

"We all like to help each other out,” said Bush. “I would expect the same thing if something bad happened in Oklahoma."

Bacone College campus police officers stepped up along with Max's 101.7 Okie Country to become drop off spots.

"We've got a lot of students from Bacone that are from Texas to Houston area Corpus Christi,” said Bacone College Police Lieutenant Roger Possey. “I was like, ‘We need to help our students’ families down there.’"

Lt. Possey says he's constantly hearing stories from students about their families back home in Texas.

He says he became an officer to help people, and he's needed help before.

"When we had a tornado here on campus, we had help come from all over the United States,” he said.

And if donations keep coming, they'll have gallons to give.

The plan is to hit the road Friday afternoon; you can drop off donations until then at one of the drop off spots.
