Nearly a thousand students walked through the hallways of Northwest Elementary for the very first time.
Teacher Veronica Smith said, “There's been a lot of energy this morning."
Children and their parents lined up outside the door eager to come in and see their brand-new school.
Smith said, "The kids couldn't wait. It was obvious we had a line out the door. Everyone was ready to start the school year."
Teachers helped students find their classrooms. Some admit they're still learning their way around, too.
Smith said, "[she’s] still finding rooms that [she] had no idea they were there."
The school features the only elementary STEM lab in the district, two gyms, and a state-of-the-art playground.
A brand-new school can be scary for students and teachers, but they say they'll find their way.
This is the district's first new elementary school in 26 years.
