A van ran into the wall of South Pointe Chrysler dealership at 93rd and Memorial. The silver van went completely into the building.
Tulsa Fire Department said the young male driver was trying to park in a handicapped spot when he hit the accelerator, smashed through a window of the customer service waiting area and was stopped by a bathroom on the other side.
Firefighters said a guard on the driver's wheelchair malfunctioned, causing him to accelerate into the building.
“As he's pulling in and leans over on his wheelchair...[he has] some guards on each side to keep them up right, one of those opened up and when he fell over to the inside of the van he accelerated and that's what caused the accident,” Captain Stan May said.
A couple of customers were hit by debris, but no one had to be taken to the hospital, May said. There were minor injuries only.
EMSA and Tulsa firefighters responded to the scene Thursday morning, August 10.
