Police are looking for the man they say stabbed a homeless woman seven times after sexually assaulting her late Monday.
Officers said the victim is recovering from her injuries after being taken to a Tulsa hospital.
The crime happened under a bridge near Main Street and Archer at about 11:30 p.m.
The woman told officers she was asleep under the bridge late Monday night when she woke up to a man on top of her. Officers said the man sexually assaulted her then stabbed her before running away.
Police say the victim then walked to a bar in the 100 block of North Main seeking help.
TPD said there's been an increase of violent crimes against the homeless around Tulsa in the past few weeks.
They said the homeless community is an easier target for many criminals.
"Criminals are opportunists. They look for an opportunity to commit a crime or to assault or hurt somebody," said Officer Jeanne Mackenzie.
If you know anything about this stabbing, contact police.
