B.A. Baseball Snaps State Tournament Drought

After a few years' absence, the Broken Arrow Tigers are back where they say they belong: the state tournament.

And they say there's something special about this year's team that means they may stick around for a while.

"It's been a crazy year, crazy fun year,” said senior infielder Landon Hulet. “By far my favorite year we've had so far."

Coach Shannon Dobson added, "It's just a different kind of group. They're a bunch of dirtbags.”

Just so we’re clear, "dirtbags" is a compliment.

Dobson's group of dirtbags is back in the state tournament after a two-year drought, and they open up with Norman North Thursday night.

"I think we have one of the best team chemistry,” said junior pitcher Trey Wolfe. “We all hang out with each other every day, basically, and we're all brothers. We call each other brothers."

It's that chemistry that has the Tigers thinking their stay in Oklahoma City won't be a short one.

"We hang out outside of school, outside of baseball, just a great group of guys,” said Hulet.

They got here after a regional sweep at Union last weekend.

"Once you win a regional, guys are kind of on cloud nine, and they're willing to practice even more,” said Dobson.

And now, they're ready to play.

"Yeah, this week's gone by so slow,” said Wolfe. “It feels like it's been two weeks since Saturday."
