Police have released the name of the victim and suspect in connection with a fatal stabbing in Tulsa early Wednesday.

Homicide detectives say the victim is 60-year-old Wade Warthen of Tulsa.  They say Warthen died at the hospital after police found him lying in the driveway of a home in the 1800 block of North Boston Place with a stab wound in the left side of his torso.

Police say after talking with witnesses at the scene, they determined the victim was inside the home with the suspect identified as 62-year-old Reginald Thompson.

According to the arrest and booking report, Thompson told officers he was inside the house with Warthen when he asked $50 Warthen had borrowed about a year ago. The pair began fighting and Thompson told officers that Warthen began hitting him in the head and body several times, the report shows.

Warthen tried to leave the house but wasn't able to get the screen door open, Thompson told officers. Thompson said he went to the kitchen and got a knife while Warthen tried to leave. Thompson then told officers that Warthen kept telling Thompson, "that he was not going to use the knife," the report states.

Thompson said he stabbed Warthen because he thought he was going to assault him, the report states.

After stabbing Warthen, Thompson went outside and caught a ride, the report shows.

Both Warthen and Thompson have been convicted and sentenced in the past for drug violations. According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Wade Warthen was released from prison in 2010 and Reginald Thompson was released from prison in 2001.

Police say this is Tulsa's 27th homicide of the year.
