A record flood is expected for all sites on the Illinois River after this weekend’s storms. News On 6 Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer said numbers coming in from gauges are much higher than expected from the watershed basin from northwest Arkansas.
It now appears the Illinois River near Tahlequah will crest at 32.1 feet, breaking the record set back in December 2015. The record in 2015 was 30.69 feet.
The numbers will adjust slightly as the day goes on and upstream gauges are monitored and revised, he said.
The flood is expected to affect many float operations at a critical time for their businesses. Many cabins and parks could also be severely flooded or totally isolated for an extended duration.
