The Oklahoma Highway Patrol closed the Will Rogers Turnpike east of Miami because of multiple wrecks.
The OHP said the wrecks involved all different types of vehicles, from semis to cars.
A woman from Oologah told News On 6 that as of 5 p.m. she and her family had been sitting in the traffic jam for three hours. She said all they could see in front and behind them was big trucks so they had no idea what the problem was.
The OHP re-opened the westbound lanes of highway at 5:45 p.m. but said traffic would move slowly for some time. It finally got traffic moving in the eastbound direction at about 6:30 p.m.
She said the stranded drivers and passengers were being friendly to each, sharing water and staying warm.
No injuries were been reported.
