Polar Plunge Begins This Week In Green Country

Dreary conditions continue to hamper eastern Oklahoma to start our Sunday, but the sun is scheduled to make a brief return before the day is up!

Areas of drizzle will gradually dissipate across most of eastern Oklahoma by the late morning hours. Skies look to begin gradually clearing from northwest to southeast by the afternoon hours as slightly drier air moves in.

By late afternoon, we should see some good periods of sunshine from Tulsa to the northwest, though cloudier conditions may linger across far eastern and southeastern Oklahoma. Afternoon highs look to reach seasonably cool levels in the low to mid 50s with a light northwest breeze.

Enjoy the brief return to sunshine later today, because clouds will thicken back up on Monday as the storm system responsible for our recent drizzly weather shifts closer to Oklahoma. Much of the daylight hours Monday may remain dry, but scattered showers become more likely from late afternoon into the late evening hours Monday particularly from Tulsa to the east. That next round of showers looks to quickly move out before sunrise Tuesday.

As the rainy conditions move out, a polar plunge begins as we head further into the week! Afternoon temperatures Tuesday will start to trend down into the 40s as a surge of Arctic air begins to get closer to Green Country.

By Wednesday, that Arctic air will begin to spill into eastern Oklahoma, dropping our temperatures down into the 30s during the day with much colder wind chills! For all you snow-lovers, this system does NOT appear to be a major winter weather-maker. However, as the storm system quickly swings on by it may have enough moisture to at least produce some snow flurries or light snow across northeast Oklahoma and particularly into southeast Kansas by late Wednesday.
