Oklahoma State junior defensive tackle Vincent Taylor has been named one of three finalists for the Piesman Trophy, the website SB Nation announced Thursday. The award will be presented on Friday, Dec. 9 at the Roxy Hotel in New York City.
The Piesman Trophy (rhymes with Heisman) annually recognizes the college football lineman who has authored the most impressive play as a runner, receiver, or passer, as decided by a panel of voters. Piesman voters include media members from various media outlets such as ESPN, NFL Network, VICE, Bleacher Report, Fox Sports 1, USA Today, CBS, the Associated Press, Sports Illustrated, and MTV.
The San Antonio, Texas, product has recorded a number of Piesman-worthy plays this season, including a blocked PAT against Texas in October which Taylor picked up before an impressive lateral to a trailing Tre Flowers for the score.
Just two games later at Kansas, Cowboy safety Jordan Sterns intercepted a Montell Cozart pass and tossed the ball back to Taylor in traffic. The big man recorded a 14-yard return before another lateral to defensive end Jarrell Owens, who finished off the play with a 29-yard return before being brought down at the Kansas 16 yard line. Owens, a redshirt sophomore, received a Piesman nomination for the play as well.
Also named as finalists were Monmouth's Kolton Koch and Pittsburgh's Brian O'Neill.
