Police say a man was shot as he was looking for his friend's wife early Saturday.
Officers arrested the alleged shooter, Dwight Phillips, 39, in the 3300 block of East Woodrow at around midnight.
The victim told police, he and his friend had made contact with Phillips, but ran when they saw Phillips holding a gun. The pair said Phillips opened fire as they ran for their car. Those shots missed. The two men found a police officer near Harvard and Pine and that officer followed the victims back to the scene.
As the victims and police pulled up, officers said Dwight Phillips, who was standing on the porch, opened fire again, hitting a 32-year-old man two times. The man's 27-year-old friend took cover and was not injured.
EMSA took the shooting victim to the hospital with what police said were non-life threatening injuries.
Additional police officers arrived, surrounded the home and took Dwight Phillips into custody.
Police Sgt. Dave Walker says their investigation revealed that the shooting was not random and that the victim and his friend were at the Phillips’s house to locate the friend’s wife.
Walker said the wife was not at the home, but when Phillips answered the door holding a gun, both ran away.
Dwight Phillips was booked on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon. Jail records show he has a court appearance for November 18th.
