After Wild Play, Sand Springs Football Players Getting National Attention

A high school football play that is being talked about all over the country happened right here in Green Country.

It shows the Sand Springs Sandites scrambling to get two points on the board, and in the process, beating the undefeated Muskogee Roughers.

The play made the number one slot on ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10, and now many of the players involved are getting a lot of attention.

Sand Springs quarterback Hunter Greathouse said his dad woke up the whole house in the middle of the night when the video of the play hit national airwaves.

When you watch the video, one of the questions you have to ask yourself, how did a quarterback catch a batted ball, hand it to an open guy and slam it into the end zone to win the game?

Thursday night, undefeated Muskogee had the lead over Sand Springs with six seconds on the clock. Sand Springs knew they had to make the two-point conversion to avoid tying the game and sending it into overtime.

The play went out the window when a Muskogee defender swatted at the ball, but it landed right back in Greathouse's hands.

"As soon as I looked up and caught it I was thinking, 'Oh my gosh, I've got to make a play.' So I reversed field and saw I was going to get tackled and I wasn't going to make it, and I looked back and found Josh Tabor - man of the day you know," he said.

At the right place, running back Josh Tabor caught the ball, found a hole and scored.

"I honestly don't know how I didn't get tackled,” he said. “The first guy hit me and I was kind of stumbling, and I dove and got hit from the side and got the ball over, but it's crazy."

Sand Springs won the game 25-26, breaking Muskogee's winning streak.

Now, the two Sandites are enjoying their national fame.

Greathouse said, "It's a dream come true. It's every kid's dream to be on ESPN growing up, and now that we're number one, just not top 10, we're number one, it's insane."

"We just have a lot of heart and don't give up," Tabor said.

The video of the play now has around 100,000 views on social media.
