Wednesday is National Walk or Bike to School Day - as schools and city leaders across the country want to show the importance of safe routes to school. Students, teachers and community leaders from all 50 states are getting groups together and walking to school - that includes eight Tulsa Public schools, like Eliot Elementary in Brookside

Organizers say this nationwide event helps kids experience the importance of physical activity and getting outdoors. It also highlights the importance of having safe routes to school - sidewalks, traffic flow improvements - generally better infrastructure.

It's worth noting the Vision Tax Package that Tulsa voters approved in April includes $14.5 million for a public schools safety initiative. That's going to pay for sidewalks, crosswalks and street lights for not only TPS, but also Jenks and Union.

Again, schools across the state are doing this Wednesday so drivers are asked to be extra careful.
