The Girl Scouts celebrated a big milestone this weekend. The Girl Scouts unveiled their new Hardesty Leadership Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house Saturday.

The scouts said they needed the bigger space to accommodate their almost 13,000 members.

Ground was broken for the construction of the Hardesty Leadership Center in October of 2014, scout officials said in a news release.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma moved into the building June 1 and it serves as the headquarters for the region.

The building illustrates the Girl Scout theme throughout the facility, complete with a green sash on the front of the building.

"I've not seen one Girl Scout office with the design detail of this one," said Roberta Preston, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma. "We waited for the right time and held on to the land for ten years so that we knew we had the support of the philanthropic community. We were very fortunate with the timing and did all of our pledges before the oil prices dropped. I think that made a difference."

The building was financed through a capital campaign that began in 2013 and is almost complete.

The Girl Scouts' former location at 51st and Lewis was nearly 50 years old.
