Tulsa Man Dies After Falling Asleep While Driving, Police Say

Tulsa Police said an 18-year-old man was killed Saturday at about 10:25 a.m. when he fell asleep at the wheel.

David Shane Hamilton of Tulsa was killed when his car left the roadway and struck two landscaping rocks and a telephone pole near Joplin Avenue and Tecumseh Street.

Hamilton fell asleep while driving, his passenger told police. 

Hamilton's 2000 Pontiac Firebird was westbound on Tecumseh near Joplin when it went left of center and off the roadway before striking two large landscaping rocks and a telephone pole. 

Police said the impact partially ejected Hamilton, killing him.
