Pryor Man To Be Tried As Adult For Role In Mother's Death

The Oklahoma Criminal Court of Appeals has ruled that a Mayes County judge will bind over Aaron Jacob McNulty, 19, as an adult on first-degree murder charges in the death of his mother.

The OCCA made the decision Tuesday on the appeal. The case began on October 25, 2014, when Jennifer McNulty overdosed on four oxycodone pills and died. 

Investigators learned that McNulty got the prescription pills from her son, Aaron.

The District Attorney's office stepped in then and traced the drugs back to five other people, who were all arrested and charged with Jennifer McNulty's death, even though some of the individuals had never even met her. 

Aaron McNulty was 17 at the time of his arrest in 2015 and a Mayes County judge decided not to bind McNulty over for trial due to lack of evidence. 

The DA appealed that decision with the OCCA and won.

The original Mayes County judge then decided to bind McNulty over at the time as a juvenile instead of an adult, but the DA wanted him charged him with first-degree murder as an adult. 

The DA's office filed the complaint with the OCCA and it ruled September 20, 2016, that the Mayes County judge will bind him over as an adult on the first-degree murder charges.
