Police say a 34-year-old Tulsa man suspected of breaking into vehicles and driving an SUV, attempted to hit an officer outside a Tulsa motel early Saturday.
Officers were called to the Econolodge motel in the 3300 block of South 79th East Avenue about the burglaries at around 1 a.m.
According to a police report, officers arrived and immediately spotted a man run into the motel and out a back door. Just outside that door, police spotted a Dodge Durango beginning to back up. Police ordered the SUV driver to stop, but the driver, later identified as 34-year-old Allan Powell, accelerated in reverse towards an officer.
Police said the officer jumped out of the way, but Powell's SUV continued on, knocking down a motel sign pole, causing the SUV to get high-centered on the pole.
Allan Powell was arrested and was booked into the Tulsa County jail on complaints including assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and malicious injury to property.
The officer was not injured.
A search of the SUV turned up a bag of marijuana according to police.
Jail records show Powell is being held on a bond of $67,750 with a court appearance set for September 2.
