Hot & Muggy Oklahoma, With A Few Storms Possible

The weak boundary located northwest of the Tulsa metro will provide a slight chance of scattered showers and storms for the next 24 to 36 hours. A few of the storms tonight into Friday morning could become severe with pockets of heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and some small hail. Widespread severe weather is unlikely to occur across the body of our immediate area of concern, but a few storms will be possible in a few locations mainly north and northwest of the metro.   But we will include a slight mention for the Tulsa area.   A small outflow boundary from overnight storms may trigger a shower or storm this morning across northern OK for the next few hours.   The chance will remain rather low and mostly for areas near and northeast of the metro.

Friday through the weekend, low level moisture will continue to surge across the area, and scattered showers and storms will remain a possibility across Eastern Oklahoma. There may be a few showers or storms near our area early Friday morning, but the higher probability will arrive by midday through early afternoon along with daytime heating with temps moving into the upper eighties.   Most data continue to point toward a surge of moisture moving around the southeastern U.S. ridge into East TX and Eastern OK.  This tropical moisture will reside across the eastern half of the State this weekend. A few showers or storms will be likely this weekend into early next week, but the coverage will remain rather sparse. This means our precipitation chances will also remain somewhat low. But a few locations should expect to pick up thunderstorms this weekend.

Temps today will move back into the mid-90s along with south winds at 15 to 25 mph and heat index values near 100.  Fridays highs will be slightly lower with afternoon readings in the upper 80s near 90 but the muggy conditions will remain. Temperatures Saturday through early next week will remain very steady. Morning lows in the lower 70s will be followed by daytime highs near 90. South Winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour will continue to enforce the tropical moisture across the atmosphere.

You may have read information regarding a tropical system developing in the Atlantic. Some data indicates this system may move into the Gulf of Mexico early next week and could blossom into a tropical storm or hurricane.  Other data have this system mainly impacting the Florida region.  We are still many days away from this time period. At this point it seems highly unlikely that this tropical system would directly impact part of Oklahoma. But things can and do change, and we will continue to post information at times regarding this possible tropical system.
