Deputies arrested a Bixby mother for child endangerment Tuesday evening after finding her one-year-old daughter in a playpen with pill bottles and used needles nearby.
She was identified as 30-year-old Danielle Owen.
In their report, Tulsa County Sheriff's deputies got a 911 call from the home in the 7900 block of East 171st Street South at around 7 p.m. On the line, an operator could hear only "gurgling" sounds. Deputies responded, but after getting no one to answer the door, broke in and found the Danielle Owen asleep on a bed and the toddler in the playpen nearby.
Police also found a drug paraphernalia and a large number of used syringes in the room.
In their report, police stated there was trash all over the house, including rotting food, mice and multiple bottles of urine.
A search of the kitchen turned up no food and the refrigerator didn't work.
"Both bathrooms didn't work and you couldn't move in most of the rooms due to trash bags and other discarded items," the arresting officer said.
Danielle Owen was booked into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of child endangerment, possession of a controlled and dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia.
According to an arrest report, she admitted to smoking methamphetamine. When asked about food for the child, she reportedly said she fed the toddler Cheerios, but officers said they found no fresh food in the house.
Records show police believe the toddler got the mother's phone and dialed 911.
"When I told Danielle this, she started crying and said, 'This was a miracle from God and a wake-up call for me that I have to stop doing drugs and clean up my life."
The toddler was turned over to Owen's mother. EMSA treated the child at the scene and said she had serious diaper rash.
Jail records show Owen has a court appearance set for August 30
