Several Green Country school districts opened for the new school year Thursday morning.

The list included Sperry, Berryhill, Tahlequah, Okmulgee, Inola, Verdigris, Locust Grove, Eufaula, Kellyville, Mounds, and Coweta.

For Coweta students, they are going back less than a month after storms left some major damage to several of their buildings.

The good news for Coweta students, the district confirms repairs to the damaged buildings are finished before classes began Thursday.

Those mid-July storms punctured the roof of the A and C hall at Coweta Junior High school. Along with roof damage, the superintendent said all of the shingles blew off the neighboring alternative education building.

The district says they are now just finishing up cosmetic repairs, like installing pieces of metal trim on the roof.
