Realtor Helps Dewey Family Recover Stolen $25K House Payment

Hackers who went after a family's house payment are ending up empty handed.

We told you last week someone “electronically” stole the Monday family’s $25,000 payment for their new home.

Hackers intercepted email correspondence between the family and their realtor about the wired funds, so the title company never received the money.

The realty company, Chinowth & Cohen, says it tracked the diverted funds to a fraudulent bank account in Michigan. It took a couple of days but the bank was able to freeze the account and return the money.  

That allowed the Mondays to close on their Washington County home last Friday.
