All TPS Elementary Students To Get Free Breakfast, Lunch

Tulsa Public Schools has announced all of its elementary students will be eligible to receive free breakfasts and lunches during the upcoming school year.

The program, effective for TPS elementary students for the next five years, is made available through the USDA's Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).

"A healthy breakfast is a great start to the school day," TPS Superintendent Deborah Gist said. "We know that students are better able to focus on learning when they're well fed, and we are so pleased to be able to offer nutritious meals to all of our elementary school students at no cost to families."

Parents and guardians of elementary level students will no longer need to complete free and reduced meal applications in order for children to participate in the School Breakfast and National School Lunch program.

Families with children in secondary schools will still need to complete free and reduced meal applications in order for secondary students to benefit from the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Program.

"This is our pilot year for district participation in the Community Eligibility Provision, so we're building strong foundations by starting with our youngest learners in year one," Gist said.

Free and reduced meal applications for secondary students must be submitted at the start of each school year.

Paper applications will be available on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at all secondary school sites and at the TPS Enrollment Center at 2819 S. New Haven Ave.
