Bartlesville Gets $500K Grant For Downtown Redevelopment

The City of Bartlesville has been awarded a $500,000 grant to turn a vacant downtown church property into affordable housing.

The Main Street grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will be used to help build a mixed-use development including 32 apartments as well as retail and living space.

The 75,000-square-foot church property in the 500 block of South Johnstone Avenue has been vacant since 2012 when the First United Methodist Church relocated to the southeast part of town.

The Bartlesville Redevelopment Trust Authority sought the Main Street grant to help with the redevelopment.

“In communities like Bartlesville, a grant like this can not only provide much-needed affordable housing, but also a boost of economic activity," said HUD Secretary Julian Castro. 

“Walkable neighborhoods, with access to jobs and groceries, are sustainable neighborhoods where folks can succeed. HUD is proud to be a partner in rebuilding an area like Bartlesville, in need.”
