Broken Arrow Police said a 41-year-old coach was arrested for making lewd proposals to a 15-year-old girl. The girl's mother notified police of inappropriate messages sent through Instagram, according to an arrest report.
Gregory Durbin has been suspended with pay from his teaching position at BA Public Schools, pending an investigation.
An arrest report states the girl and two of her friends were at the pool at the Greens at Battle Creek apartment complex, 1800 West Albany Drive, when Durbin approached them. He talked to them for a couple of hours then sent the girl a "follow request" on Instagram after the teens left the pool, the report states.
Durbin began sending the girl direct messages, and the arresting officer said he observed the messages on her cell phone.
The officer said after Durbin first instructed the girl not to "snap or text my messages" and asked her age, to which she replied, "15." Police say Durbin then messaged, "Can I ask you a sex question?" After she said, "yes," Durbin asked her what sex acts she liked to perform and receive, the report states.
He eventually said, "What's your number? I'm soooo bad, tonight!" and "Coach wants your number," according to police.
Officers arrested the 41-year-old man at the apartment complex on a felony count of making lewd proposals to a minor.
Broken Arrow Public Schools Communications Officer Shelli Holland-Handy issued the following statement:
As soon as we were made aware of this situation, Mr. Durbin was suspended with pay pending a full investigation. We take any matter involving a risk to students very seriously and we are cooperating fully with law enforcement in their investigation. Appropriate action will be taken pending the outcome of these investigations.
