The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of over 500,000 hoverboards produced by 10 firms.
The "self-balancing scooters" are powered by lithium-ion battery packs, and the recalled versions can overheat, posing a risk of the products smoking, catching fire and even exploding, according to the CPSC.
The recall affects about 501,000 hoverboards that were produced in China. There have been at least 99 incidents reported over the products sparking and catching fire including reports of burn injuries and property damage, the consumer safety organization states.
The boards were sold nationwide and online from June 2015 through May 2016.
The Commission says consumers should stop using hoverboards that aren't UL2272 certified. We have links so you can find out what that means and which hoverboards are being recalled.
