Two major animal hoarding cases, and one animal abuse case, has the Tulsa Humane Society filled to the brim with rescues.

Last week they opened an emergency shelter in Bixby to help house some of the animals. Now, they're now hosting one of the biggest adoption events of the year.

"It's unfortunate, it's heartbreaking that the animals have to suffer," said Evan Fadem with the Tulsa Humane Society.

Rescue after rescue, the organization is bursting at the seams.

"We really need to move these dogs out, get them into good homes sooner rather than later," Fadem said.

Just three weeks ago the shelter rescued 58 Chihuahuas from a hoarding situation in north Tulsa. A week later, 70 dogs were rescued from a Bixby home. After that, 19 dogs were taken in from a Tulsa County home; those animals were starving and sick.

"We're assisting the sheriff's office by taking photographic pictures for evidence, and doing medical exams and stuff like that," Fadem said.

Some of the dogs have been adopted already, which is good news for the Humane Society, but there are still so many that need loving homes.

Fadem said, "We're putting one foot in front of the other and trying to make it work."

The Humane Society is hosting an adoption event Friday through Saturday - waiving fees, offering gift cards and even $600 in pet care coupons. They hope it will encourage people to adopt.

The adoption event is at the Humane Society's Emergency Facility near 131st Street South and Memorial in Bixby.
