A generous gift is helping keep the memory of a fallen Oklahoma soldier alive.
Friday, family and friends of Army Sergeant Anthony Peterson dedicated a bench in his honor at Tulsa's Mohawk Park.
His family in Owasso has to travel over an hour to get to the national cemetery where he is buried, so the park bench gives them a closer place to remember Peterson's life and his sacrifice for our country.
The memorial came about when Lesly-Ann O’Dell reached out to AT&T's "Spread The Cheer" program.
O’Dell knows the pain of losing a child, so she wanted to pay it forward to another family coping with a terrible loss.
“To have a place where she can have that peace and just feel the presence of her child and not be at a cold barren cemetery," O’Dell said.
Peterson died in 2011 when he was hit by small arms fire while on patrol in Afghanistan.
