OSRC: Woman Critical, One In Custody After Assault At Illinois River Resort

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents have been called in to assist in a sexual assault investigation at an Illinois River resort. Diamondhead Resort is located about six miles north of Tahlequah on State Highway 10.

According to the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission, a 34-year-old woman from Arkansas is in critical condition after being assaulted coming off a float trip. OSRC said the woman was flown to a hospital in Fayetteville.

OSRC said it's likely the woman knew who assaulted her.

Officer said one person is in custody and is being held at the Cherokee County jail.

No names have been released at this time and charges have not yet been filed.

OSBI said in a news release Sunday that their help was requested by the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission.
