A group of 15 children and adults from Rejoice Christian School in Owasso left from Tulsa International Airport early Wednesday on their way to the Ivory Coast.
They have been working with the 1040i project out of Oklahoma City to help build a school in Tanda, a small village in the west African nation.
The group will be there on a mission trip for two weeks, working at the school and running a vacation Bible school.
"We're going to bringing in kids who haven't got to go to school and give them experience with school, so they're more interested in the classroom," Maddie Madewell of Rejoice Christian School said.
The group will stop in St. Louis, Newark, Belgium and Burkina Faso, before taking a tram ride to the village.
