Tulsa police are investigating a double shooting that took place at an apartment complex at 66th Street and Memorial Drive.
Homicide detectives say a man is dead and a woman transported to a hospital is expected to recover.
Witnesses said a woman, her husband and a toddler live in the apartment that police are focusing on. Officers said the residence is "total chaos."
Neighbors said they heard a loud “bang” about 3:30 p.m., and they also noticed a window had been broken.
Seeing crime scene tape wrapped around this apartment and finding out two people were shot -- one fatally injured -- doesn't surprise Mark Heitgrass.
"This is not an isolated incident,” Heitgrass said. “This is an equal housing apartment complex, or it has been up until this year, so things like this have happened quite often."
He says he heard a loud bang coming from the unit earlier in the day but didn't think much of it.
"You would think this is a nice part of town, but you know, there's crime everywhere,” he said.
The woman who was shot called 911.
"There's signs of a struggle there's signs of a break in,” Homicide Sergeant Dave Walker said. “The information we are working off now is that the victim and the suspect probably know each other in some form or fashion."
Police say the inside of the apartment is quite a mess, and it's really hard to tell what happened. Aside from the window being busted out, there are bullet holes in the sheet rock, and there's evidence the door has been kicked in, police said.
Police say they found drug paraphernalia and drugs inside.
The apartment has had lots of vandalism calls, so police aren’t sure what damage is related to the shooting.
"They are making it kind of hard on us to determine what happened inside,” Walker said.
In the meantime, Heitgrass hopes for tighter security and an arrest.
Police hope to speak to the woman who was shot soon to help find leads. Investigators say they have a suspect description but will wait to release it.
