Rogers State University alumni helped save the school's National Guard program.

The "Gold Officer Leadership Program" at RSU was cut because of the state budget shortfall. But Monday, the university and the Oklahoma Army National Guard announced alumni donations will keep the GOLD program funded next year.

“Working together, we're going to be able to keep this program open until, hopefully, the federal budget turns around," said Major Gen Robbie Asher.

Asher said there's been a shortage of officers in Oklahoma over the last few years, so the GOLD program is essential.
