Police say a Tulsa homeowner helped officers catch a suspected mail thief late Thursday.
Officers were called to the 7400 block of East Admiral Place near Memorial at about 10 p.m. They said the homeowner saw Michael Pruitt, 42, take mail out of several mailboxes, get into a Ford Explorer and then park behind a nearby business. After writing down the SUV's license tag number, he called police.
Police arrived, found Pruitt, who tried to drive away, but because police had him boxed in, Pruitt got out of the SUV and ran. He was arrested a short distance away.
A search of the SUV, which turned out to be stolen, police recovered dozens upon dozens of mail believed to have been stolen from addresses in Tulsa and Broken Arrow. They also found a handgun and drug paraphernalia.
Michael Pruitt was booked into the Tulsa County jail on a number of complaints including possession of a stolen vehicle, drug possession and possession of stolen property.
Jail records show he has a court appearance set for May 13.
