Firefighters found a body outside a burning Bixby-area home Monday morning in what authorities believe was a suicide.

The house, located on 161st Street South near Harvard Avenue, was fully engulfed when fire crews arrived.

Bixby firefighters called the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office after finding a man's body in the front yard.

Firefighters got the fire under control a little after 7 a.m. They searched the home but learned no one else was home.

Neighbors tell police the person lived there alone. He is described as a man in his late 50s.

"Some of the neighbors I talked to said he's been here quite a while; he's had some struggles in life as many of us have," said Deputy Justin Green, public information officer with TCSO.

"Tulsa County Sheriff's Office will be handling the investigation from the police side," Green said. No word yet on how the fire started.

Bixby Police diverted traffic from the area, closing 161st Street from Harvard to Yale.
