The Tulsa County jail is getting bigger.
The construction work on a pod expansion project at the jail in the 300 block of North Denver will allow the sheriff's office to expand new resources to the mentally ill who are in the facility.
“This is unique. It’s one of a kind, No other facility has mental health pods like these,” said Chief Deputy Michelle Robinette.
She says once construction is complete and new diversionary programs implemented, the addition will also allow the sheriff's to offer several new resources to the mentally ill, the homeless and those suffering from addiction.
The Tulsa County jail improvements are funded by a .026-cent sales tax that was approved by voters in 2014. The project is scheduled to be complete in December of 2016.
