The District Attorney said Daniel Saldivar was abusing two relatives, girls ages 12 and 11 in 2014. Saldivar was arrested after the girls' mother found a text message on one of the children's telephone asking Saldivar: "Why do you hurt me? It makes me want to die."
He responded with a sad face, the DA's office said.
The district attorney said a SANE exam resulted in DNA evidence against Saldivar.
The DA offered Saldivar a plea deal that would have resulted in about 37 years, but he refused it. The jury sentenced him to 175 years on five counts of child sexual assault.
