Police: Vending Machine Employees Capture Shooting Suspect

Tulsa Police say a suspect is in custody thanks to some fast-acting employees at a local vending machine service. 

Tulsa Police say the gunshot victim showed up at a Tulsa hospital around 7:35 Sunday night. The man was shot in the head, according to authorities.

Homicide Detective Dave Walker said the 25-year-old man's injuries are very critical, and authorities are not sure he will survive.

Upon investigation, police learned an altercation in the 1000 block of North Garnett led to the shooting. They identified the suspect as John Crandall, 27.

He was located - already in the county jail after being arrested at a Tulsa business.

Walker said Tulsa County Sheriff's deputies took Crandall into custody after being called out to Imperial Vending at 2020 North Mingo Road on a disturbance involving an armed man.

Employees at the business detained Crandall after finding out he had a gun, according to  police.

When deputies arrived, the workers had Crandall isolated in a secured area and had taken the gun from him, an arrest report states. Deputies learned Crandall had gone to Imperial and asked to use the phone.

The manager let him in but then tackled him, the report states.

Crandall, 27, is booked on complaints of shooting with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana and knowingly concealing stolen property.

An arrest report states he has four prior felony convictions including three for possession of a stolen vehicle.
