A Claremore man who hit the beaches of Normandy on D-Day has died.

Dudley Hornback was a private with the 29th Infantry when he landed on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944.

When we spoke to him in 2010, he told us the loss of his friends kept him silent about the experience for decades, but then he realized that if he didn't tell his story, no one would ever know what he and his unit experienced.

"I tried for 60 years to forget it all. I didn't even tell her about it," Dudley said, referring to his wife, Helen, in an interview in 2010.
