A man is in jail Monday morning after authorities say he tried to run away from police in a stolen vehicle. According to an arrest report, police tried to pull over a vehicle for not having tags near North Garnett and Interstate 244.

Police say the driver pulled into a motel parking lot, and then drove into a field, trying to get away.

The driver, identified as Justin James Barnhart, eventually jumped out and tried to run, but officers caught up with him. He left the car in gear, and it ran into the motel - but not hard enough to do much damage.

Aside from finding out the vehicle had been stolen, police say they also found a bag of methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Barnhart, 32, was booked on complaints of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a controlled drug. Both were after former felony convictions.
