Men Arrested For Brutal Tulsa Beating Now Facing Murder Charges

The victim of a brutal beating has been declared brain dead and the men arrested are now facing murder charges.

Officers got a report of multiple people beating a man near 56th Street North and Peoria just before 8 p.m. Wednesday night. When police arrived, they found a 41-year-old man lying in the street with extensive injuries.

A short time later, police stopped a white 2002 BMW seen leaving the scene and questioned six people in the car.

Walker says 36-year-old Ernest Edwards and Romelo Northington and Tonyo Hughes - both 18, were taken into custody, as well as a 17 year old. The other two people in the car were released.

Police say that several of the people in the car admitted that they observed the four suspects "kicking and hitting the subject while he was on the ground."

Police said the four attacked the man because they heard he had assaulted a relative, but investigators say there is no evidence that rumored assault actually took place.

They were originally booked into the Tulsa County Jail on complaints of aggravated assault, but those charges have been upgraded to murder.
