Work is underway on a major improvement to City of Tulsa's Joe Creek trail.

The current trail was closed this week so construction crews can turn the current gravel trail into a paved trail.

The Joe Creek trail runs along the west side of Joe Creek and will be 10-feet wide.  It crosses under the Riverside Parkway and the 71st Street bridges.

Reconstruction is expected to take six months with the cost of the project estimated to be slightly more than $2 million.

The city of Tulsa says the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is providing $600,000 through the Transportation Enhancement Program and the City of Tulsa will provide the remaining funds from the 2006 Third Penny, Fix Our Streets and Improve Our Tulsa funding.
