The Oklahoma State baseball team took the field against No. 10 North Carolina on Friday afternoon and fell short, dropping the series opener 2-1.
Scoring Summary
With a leadoff base hit from Corey Hassel and a walk from Ryan Sluder followed by a sacrifice bunt by Donnie Walton, the Cowboys positioned themselves to score early with just one out at the top of the first inning.
After loading the bases, UNC pitcher Zac Gallen worked his way out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.
Note: Walton’s sacrifice bunt marked the 53rd of his career, moving him to number ten on the NCAA all-time list.
At the bottom of the first, sophomore Thomas Hatch took the mound for the Cowboys and gave up a run on an RBI double hit opposite field by Tar Heels outfielder Tyler Ramirez.
OSU quickly responded with a solo homer from Garrett Benge to leadoff the second inning.
Both teams continued to put runners on base, but the score remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when UNC’s Kyle Datres doubled to right-center, bringing in the go-ahead run to win.
Up Next: Game 2 of the series will be played Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Game 3 will be played Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
