Tulsa guard James Woodard nailed an 80-foot buzzer-beater in Tulsa’s 70-68 overtime win over Cincinnati on Thursday night.
"We [throw] stuff up in practice, you know, having a little fun. But it worked out in halftime," laughed Woodard. "[Then] we came back out and hit some regular shots."
Woodard finished the matchup with a game-high 19 points and a team-high nine rebounds as Tulsa improved to 17-9 overall and 9-5 in the AAC. Cincinnati fell to 19-8 and also currently sits at 9-5 in league play.
In the win, junior guard Pat Birt contributed 13 points, Rashad Smith had 12 and Shaquille Harrison added 11.
Gary Clark led the Bearcats with 18 points, Troy Caupain tallied 15 and Octavius Ellis had 11.
After the game, TU head coach Frank Haith praised both teams.
“It was a great win for us,” said Haith. “It was just a battle, and both teams played extremely hard. The flow of this game was just unbelievable. I thought our guys and their guys had no quit. In a game like this, you got to make plays and down the stretch we were good from the free throw line and that was big. The one stat that I thought was extremely important for us to win was rebounding, and we out rebounded them by one. I think that gave us a chance to win that ball game."
Up Next: The Golden Hurricane will travel to Orlando to face UCF. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
