Fire destroyed a large house near Catoosa Wednesday afternoon.

The house is located near 273rd East Avenue and Apache Street. The fire started just before 3 p.m.

Firefighters from Catoosa, Inola, Verdigris, Oak Grove and Rolling Hills responded to the fire. The house's location, size and the wind made it difficult for firefighters to put the fire out.

The house is very large and the flames quickly got into the attic and spread across the roof.

The house is located in a rural area forcing firefighters to set up a temporary pool and shuttle water in to the scene. Eventually they ran a hose to a large pond about 150 yards from the house.

A PSO crew arrived within a few minutes to cut power to the structure.

No one was in the home at the time. A neighbor said the owners had bought it six months ago and were in the process of renovating it.
