Work to replace two Tulsa County bridges began Monday.
Crews started with the Flat Creek Bridge on Peoria between 36th and 46th Streets North.
Osage SkyNews 6 HD pilot Will Kavanagh explained the detours.
"This bridge was built in 1940 and right now is considered functionally obsolete. Now the detour they have set up is they like you to Highway 75. If you need to go to the south end you can go to the Gilcrease Highway. If you need to go the north end they suggest exciting at 86th Street North,” he said.
Work is set to wrap up on the first bridge this summer. Then, crews will begin working on the bridge over Delaware Creek between 76th and 86th Streets North.
That should be finished in the fall.
Crews also replaced an old bridge over the Grand River at Fort Gibson Lake.
Now, that the replacement is open to traffic, the old Richard D. Newkirk Bridge is coming down.
ODOT crews plan to blow it up early Tuesday morning if the weather permits.
The state spent nearly $30 million building the new bridge and widening Highway 51 leading up to it.
