A Bixby animal hospital says an abandoned puppy suffering from unknown chemical burns has died.
The Horizon Animal Hospital in Bixby who has been caring for Zorro posted the news Saturday morning on its Facebook page. The post by Dr.Cari McDonald stated Zorro died late Friday night.
It is with a heavy heart and many tears that I must let everyone know that our little hero, Zorro, crossed quietly over Rainbow Bridge a little after 11 last night. He was peaceful and warm with all the prayers, love and support surrounding him in plush blankets and stuffed animals that everyone so generously donated. While I am deeply saddened that his journey on this earth has passed, I am comforted by the fact that this little guy knew what it was like to be held and loved in his short life. I truly believe he did fulfill his personal mission during his time here. For three whole days, people from all walks of life and from all over the world, sent prayers and gifts to a little abandoned puppy that was never given a chance. Our lesson to take from this, is that ALL life is valuable and meaningful. Everyone came together and fought for Zorro to survive. We wanted to right the wrong and injustice done to him. His legacy will be that we continue this fight for all animals that are abused, neglected or just unwanted. We have proved that together our voices are strong and people will listen when we stand together to protect an animal. My dedicated staff and I have watched as many people came to see Zorro and we have cried with them at his condition. The physical and emotional toll that this has taken on myself and everyone involved in his care, would probably lessen the chance that most people would do this again. However, we are only strengthened in our resolve and will fight again for the next one, which unfortunately, we know is out there. I cannot thank my staff and clients enough for being so understanding during this week and to everyone who has shared Zorro’s story, prayed for him and donated for his welfare, I am overwhelmed with your compassion. This was not the happy ending we all wanted, but what we accomplished together, was not in vain. It simply can’t be. There are still so many lives out there to save and so much more that we need to do.
The puppy was found by Bixby Police officers lying in a ditch earlier in the week and taken Horizon.
